Well Service & Repair in Western North Carolina

Whole-system well service for private wells across the mountains of Western North Carolina.

Well Service & Repair

Most homes outside the town water lines in Western North Carolina run on a private well, and when the water stops, runs weak, or comes out stained, the fault can sit anywhere between the faucet and the bottom of the casing. Western NC Well & Pump services the whole system: submersible and jet pumps, pressure tanks and switches, control boxes and wiring, pitless adapters, well caps, and the treatment equipment in the basement or crawlspace. Mountain wells behave differently from flatland wells. Ridge-top lots often have deep wells with low yield, hollows and creek bottoms have shallow wells and springs that take on bacteria after heavy rain, and the rock under all of it gives a lot of homes acidic water with iron and manganese. We test before we quote and explain what we found in plain words. We do not drill new wells; if your well needs to be deepened or replaced we will say so and point you to a licensed driller.

We find the fault before we price the fix

Low pressure can be a tired pump, a waterlogged tank, a bad pressure switch, a split in the drop pipe, a clogged sediment filter, or a well that is simply drawing down faster than it recharges. Swapping the pump when the tank is the problem wastes your money and leaves the real fault in place. We check pressure, amperage and water level, and on steep lots we measure static and pumping levels to tell a pump problem apart from a low-yield well.

Built for mountain wells and mountain water

Wells here are drilled into fractured crystalline rock, often 300 to 700 feet on the ridges, with a submersible pump hung on poly pipe below a pitless adapter. Yield can be a few gallons a minute or less, so pump sizing and storage matter more than they do in flat country. The water tends to run acidic, which eats copper and brass, and iron and manganese staining is common in the valleys. Many older places still run on a spring box or a shared well with a neighbor, and we service those too.

Straight pricing and a clean wellhead

You get the diagnosis and an up-front price before we start. We pull and reset pumps, replace tanks and switches, repair wiring and splices, set new well caps and seals, and disinfect the well after any open-system work. Well Service: Questions We Hear a Lot

My water stopped completely. What should I check first?
Check the breaker for the well pump and the pressure switch. A tripped breaker or a switch stuck open is a common, cheap cause. If the breaker holds and you still have no water, do not keep resetting it, because that can burn out the pump. Shut it off and call us. We will test whether the pump, the switch, the tank or the well itself is the problem.
How do I know if it is the pump or the well running low?
If the water comes back after the system sits for an hour or two, the well is probably drawing down below the pump intake, which is common on ridge lots with low-yield wells. If it does not come back at all, the pump, wiring or switch is the more likely fault. We measure water level and recovery so you are not paying for a pump you do not need.
Do you drill wells?
No. We service and repair existing wells and everything attached to them. If a well is dry, collapsed or needs deepening, we tell you plainly and refer you to a licensed well driller in the area, then handle the pump, tank and plumbing once the new well is in.
Do you service spring boxes and shared wells?
Yes. A lot of older homes in Madison, Yancey and north Buncombe still run on a spring or share a well with a neighbor. We service the pumps, tanks and lines on those systems and can add UV or filtration when a spring tests positive for bacteria.
