Well Water Testing & Treatment in Candler, NC

Test for bacteria, iron, manganese, low pH and more, then treat what your well actually has.

Water Testing for Candler Homes

Nobody tests a private well unless the owner does it, and most wells in the mountains have never been tested or were last tested when the house was built. If you have orange or black staining, blue-green marks under a dripping tap, a rotten-egg smell, or you just moved here and do not know what you are drinking, a test tells you exactly what is in the water. We sample for total coliform and E. coli bacteria, pH, iron, manganese, hardness, nitrates and, where it makes sense, radon and other naturally occurring minerals from the rock. Then we recommend treatment sized to the results: acid neutralizers for the low-pH water that is so common here, iron and manganese filters for staining, UV for bacteria, and softeners only where hardness is actually the problem.

Local well service in Candler

Candler is the Hominy Valley west of Asheville, from the Enka mill lake and Smokey Park Highway up the Pisgah Highway toward Mount Pisgah. Along the highway and around Enka the water lines reach most homes, but climb any side road, Luther, Starnes Cove, Dunsmore, and especially the long grade up Pisgah Highway, and you are on a well. The Pisgah Highway wells are among the deepest we service, drilled far into the mountain for a few gallons a minute, and the houses up there sit empty part of the year as second homes, which is hard on pumps and tanks. The valley floor along Hominy Creek is older farms and shallow wells, with the iron and manganese staining and low pH that run through the whole county. Candler has filled in with subdivisions over the last twenty years, some of them on wells, and buyers moving from Asheville city water often learn about pressure tanks the hard way. We service pumps, tanks, switches and treatment across Candler and the Hominy Valley, and we are twenty minutes from base, so most no-water calls are same day.

  • Bacteria (total coliform and E. coli) and nitrate sampling
  • pH, iron, manganese and hardness analysis
  • Radon and mineral testing where the rock calls for it
  • Acid neutralizers, iron and manganese filters, UV and softeners sized to results
  • Shock chlorination of a well that tests positive
  • Post-install retest to confirm the fix

Common Well Problems in Candler

The issues we see most on local wells, and how we fix them.

Deep wells up the Pisgah Highway grade

The homes climbing toward Mount Pisgah sit on deep, slow wells. Pulling a pump at that depth is real work, and sizing it so it does not pump the well dry is what keeps the next one from failing early.

Second homes that sit idle

A house that is empty for weeks and then full of people is hard on a well system. Stale water, a waterlogged tank nobody noticed and a pump that short-cycles under load are the calls we get from the mountain lots.

Iron, manganese and acidic water in the valley

Staining on fixtures and pinhole leaks in copper come from the same rock. A test gives us the pH and the mineral levels, and a neutralizer and filter sized to them fix both.

Water Testing in Candler: FAQs

Do you go all the way up the Pisgah Highway?
Yes. The Pisgah Highway communities up to the Parkway are in our radius, and we are used to the grade and the switchbacks.
I am in a newer Candler subdivision. Am I on a well?
Some are on water lines and some are on wells, sometimes within the same development. A pressure tank and a pump breaker in your crawlspace or utility room means a well. A water bill means a line.
How fast can you reach Candler for no water?
Candler is close to our base, so no-water calls are usually the same day. Call and we will give you a real arrival window.
How often should I test my well water?
Test for bacteria every year and after any flood, any pump or well work, or any change in taste, smell or color. Test pH, iron, manganese and hardness at least every few years. If you just bought a home on a well and have no recent results, test now.
My water leaves orange or black stains. Is that dangerous?
Orange-brown staining is usually iron and black staining is usually manganese. Both are common in mountain wells and are mostly a nuisance for laundry, fixtures and taste, but they also wear pumps and clog filters, and manganese at higher levels is worth treating for health reasons. A test tells us how much is present so we can size the right filter.
Why are my copper pipes getting pinhole leaks?
That is the signature of acidic, low-pH well water, which is very common in Western North Carolina. Patching leaks does not stop it. An acid neutralizer raises the pH and protects the rest of your plumbing, your pump and your water heater.
My well flooded. Is the water safe?
Treat it as unsafe until it is tested. Floodwater carries bacteria into the casing and sometimes silt into the pump. We shock chlorinate the well, flush it, then test for bacteria before you drink from it again, and we check the pump and pressure tank for damage at the same time.
